Washed Badge Repair
Posted by Admin on 28. December, 2020
This this how I fixed it.
The battery was removed and another soldered in. No charge, no display. Bummer. Examination of the board revealed that the charge controller chip was missing a leg. Arrgg. Rum didn't solve the problem. What to do?
I was able to scrape enough of the chip package away (the chip being 0.8mm pin pitch and about 4mm x 3mm), to expose some shiny copper. Using the finest wire and a small soldering iron tip I was able to reconnect the chip to the board. A re-charge with the new battery re-animated the badge.
Pix to follow. :)
So a new lung and a new, liver?
