Making an Old Valve Radio Into a Bluetooth Player
First I purchased a mono, 6W (claimed) bluetooth receiver from that well known internet auction site, and awaited it's delivery.
I removed the original mains input connecter with it's mountung plate, and stashed it inside the radio for future (purist) restorers. After cutting the mains input wires from both sides of the on/off knob and making up a new 5V barrel connector plate, I connected the 5V to the knob and to the bluetooth receiver supply. I cut the speaker transformer wires and conneted the bluetooth receiver directly to the original, 8 ohm, speaker.
From the barrel connector I added two more paiirs of wires to LEDs. One set to backlight the original dial with soft white LEDs and the other to backlight the inside of the radio with (fashionable) blue LED's. These I positioned just behind the valves for best effect. These would be hardly ever be seen in practice but for so little work it was a customer-pleasing addition.
A DXF of the barrel connector is HERE (soon).
